"Forward, pressing forward"

We had a cool experience with a less active family the other night. We decided to go venture on a new avenue of teaching by using videos because their son has a hard time paying attention. We showed the Restoration video and afterwards asked the mom to bear her testimony. She talked for close to five minutes about how she knows Joseph Smith is a prophet, the Gospel is true, and this is the true Church. She started to cry near the end and I shared with her D&C 62:3:

Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for the angels to look upon; and they rejoice over you, and your sins are forgiven you.

It was a pretty sweet moment!

The next day, we went over to another less active family and shared with them Mosiah 18:8-10:

...as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—

Their ten year old son asks, "Is that what having empathy means?" That kid is brilliant! I was just dumbfounded because this ten year old understood it so well compared to his mom who doesn't get it at all.

"Forward, pressing forward, as a triumph song we sing.
God our strength will be; press forward ever,
Called to serve our King."
